The Great Erris Run 10k starts and finishes at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel in Belmullet, on the Erris peninsula of north Mayo. The route follows a loop along the surrounding coastline, taking in sweeping views of Broadhaven and Blacksod bays with the backdrop of Achill Island across the water. The terrain is flat and on roads, which organisers highlight as ideal for novices and runners of all abilities alike. Sanctioned and measured by Athletics Ireland, the chip-timed event was first established as part of Belmullet's bicentenary celebrations and now runs annually during the town's festival week. Organised by M Fitness in memory of the late Pauline Sweeney, it raises funds for MS Ireland. Participants are encouraged to finish with a dip in the nearby Belmullet Tidal Pool, adding to the event's scenic coastal character.
