About this race
The Churchtown South Road Race is an annual summer evening road race held in the village of Churchtown South, near Cloyne in east Cork, organised by East Cork AC and Churchtown South Community Council. The 4-mile course takes runners on a looped route through the quiet country roads of this part of east Cork, with views of the sea and the surrounding golden fields of the coastal countryside near Ballycotton. The course is undulating and scenic, running through the narrow rural roads typical of the area. The event is held on a Thursday evening in late July at 8pm, with race HQ at the small community hall in the village. Post-race refreshments and a social gathering in the hall are a popular feature. The race is run under an Athletics Ireland permit, and the course has been professionally measured. It has been revived in recent years as a standalone event building on the area's long tradition of road racing, previously associated with the historic Ballycotton Summer Series.
