About this race
The Willie Neenan Memorial 5 Mile Road Race is organised by Millstreet Athletic Club in honour of Willie Neenan, a long-serving and celebrated figure in Irish athletics. The race takes place in Millstreet town in northwest County Cork, with race headquarters at the GAA Community Hall. The course starts on the Clara Road on the edge of the town and the first three miles are largely flat and fast. An incline is encountered between miles three and four near Drishane Castle, though it is short in nature. The route then returns back towards the town centre, finishing with a downhill stretch. The course has been officially measured by an Athletics Ireland national grade measurer and runs under a full Athletics Ireland permit. Walkers are also welcome and set off ahead of the runners. The race is a popular fixture on the Cork summer calendar.
