About this race
The Seamie Weldon Memorial 5k is a popular evening road race held in the town of Ardee, County Louth, organised by Ardee & District Athletic Club in memory of Seamie Weldon, a much-loved runner, coach and committee member who gave decades of service to the club. Held on the first Saturday in September with the club's base at Ardee Community School, the chip-timed course starts and finishes at the school and takes runners out along the roads in and around the town. The route is well marshalled and suited to all abilities, from first-timers and walkers to club athletes chasing a fast time, and it also incorporates the Louth Masters 5k Road Race Championship. With finisher medals, an extensive prize list and a warm community atmosphere, the event has become a cherished fixture on the local calendar, drawing a strong field each year in Seamie's honour.
