About this race
The Galway Women's Mini Marathon is held annually to celebrate the St Brigid's Bank Holiday weekend, organised by Craughwell Athletic Club and starting and finishing near the club's athletic grounds in Craughwell, around ten miles east of Galway City. The course is an accurately measured, spoon-shaped 10km loop following the well-known Craughwell 10 route, passing along the way Europe's largest turlough, a unique seasonal lake that fills and drains with the water table. The terrain includes some light rolling hills to keep the route interesting without being a serious challenge, making it accessible to women of all running abilities, whether walking, jogging or running. All proceeds from the event go directly towards sports facilities in the local area.
