The Alan Mahon 5k is a memorial run held in Kildangan, County Kildare, in tribute to local man Alan Mahon. The chip-timed road route starts and finishes at Kildangan GAA grounds in Rickardstown Upper, taking runners out along the new road and past the Courtyard Estate before passing through the gates of the renowned Kildangan Stud. From there the course winds through the townlands of Kildangan, Derry and Harristown Upper, continuing through Rathbawn, Harristown and Rickardstown Lower before returning to the GAA pitch. Run on quiet rural roads through countryside steeped in history, the route offers a scenic tour of an area rarely seen by visitors. A 3k and 5k walk follows the same course, starting just after the run. The evening continues with a community barbecue, music and children's entertainment at the grounds.
